'Theravadan Reflections on the Great Perfection' by Amaro Bikkhu.
This book contains talks by Ajahn Amaro, which were given during a joint retreat conducted by both Tsoknyi Rinpoche (Tibetan/Dzogchen) and Ajahn Amaro (Theravadan) held at Spirit Rock Meditation Center in 1997. The meeting of spiritual traditions, including that of Theravada wisdom teachings and Dzogchen, two great expressions of the Buddha-Dharma, is one of the major beneficial aspects of life in these times.
The Buddha said that the body can be compared to foam and feeling to a bubble, perception to a mirage, volition to a banana tree trunk and consciousness to a juggler.
Can you see the nature of his comparisons? These are the five aggregates
The Anatta Lakkhana Sutta is the discourse given to the five ascetics. Actually it was the Buddha's second discourse after reaching enlightenment.
The first was the Dhamma Chakka Pavattana Sutta and the second was the Anatta Lakkhana Sutta. After listening to this Sutta, all five ascetics reached Arahant status.
The venerable bikkhuni begins her discourse with some of the most melodius/soulful chanting of the 5 precepts ever heard on a Dhamma recording.
Attachment in it's various pernicious guises is the topic of this talk. How to handle it? Is renunciation a practical response to the thirst of sense & mind craving for a lay person?
Listen and find out more from this talk given in Perth Western Australia in 2003.
